Restoration of “Susanne and the elders” by Peter Paul Rubens

Thanks to the Fundación Callia’s donation, in the painting “Susanne and the Elders”, by Rubens (c. 1610), one of the 10 most relevant pieces of the Academy, the original colours and nuances which had been invisible with the course of time, emerge again.

The donation comes from the generosity of the guests of the V Ibero-American Patronage ceremony of awards, organised by Fundación Callia, celebrated last February at the Royal Theatre of Madrid. The ceremony gathered numerous national and international patrons.

The restoration of this oil on panel has consisted in a thorough cleansing and the reintegration of the pictorial layer, as well as the intervention of the frame.
